Why nobody selling an EOR will explain it like this
We want Employ Borderless to be the place you go for anything about remote hiring. Starting with a video every Monday.
Try something. Search YouTube for “what is an employer of record.” Look at who made the top results.
Deel. Remote. Oyster. Multiplier. Every explanation of what an EOR is, when you need one, and what it should cost, comes from a company that gets paid when you sign up for one. Their answer to “do I need an EOR” will always end the same way: yes, you need an EOR.
I’ve spent a bunch of years in international hiring. I’ve seen a bunch of real EOR quotes. Watched companies pay three times the fair rate for the same service. Watched a founder discover Brazil’s 13th salary requirement the day the invoice landed. And the whole time, the most-watched explanations of this industry have come from the people with the most reason to leave things out.
Almost everything you can find about remote hiring right now is made by a provider selling one. That’s the actual problem. Not that the content is bad. Some of it is genuinely good. It’s that the people writing your only source of information all have the same answer waiting at the end.
So here’s the goal: we want Employ Borderless to be the place you go for anything related to remote hiring. Not a provider’s blog with a sales team behind it. An actual independent source.
We already had a YouTube channel. About ten videos, posted roughly four months ago, then nothing. Good information, no follow-through. That’s on me.
This time it’s a real plan. A video every Monday, long-form, one topic properly explained, not a highlight reel. Alongside that: market updates when something actually happens, a rule change, a provider pulling out of a country, a new employment law that matters. Platform walkthroughs when providers launch new features, so you can see what actually changed instead of taking their word for it. And a podcast, because some of this is better talked through than scripted.
First video is live now. It answers the most basic question in this market, honestly, in five minutes:
It covers how the model actually works, what it really costs (including the three fees the advertised price doesn’t mention), and something you won’t hear from anyone selling an EOR: the three situations where you shouldn’t use one at all.
Got a question you want answered? Reply to this email or drop it in the comments. If enough people ask the same thing, it becomes a video. That’s genuinely the easiest way to get me to cover a topic.
One thing I’ll say plainly, here and everywhere: Employ Borderless earns referral fees from some providers. Every video discloses this. It doesn’t change what we publish. Independence is the whole point of the company.
If you’re hiring internationally right now, everything we build is free to use at employborderless.com. Want the videos as they drop? The channel is at youtube.com/@employborderless.
The market has enough explanations from people whose bonus depends on your signature. This is the other kind.
